Refurbished tram jumps tracks for new café experience at Angliss
It's arrived! On Sunday, 11 December, a retired heritage W Class tram was craned into its future home at our Melbourne CBD campus where it will operate as a café, the first of its kind in Melbourne's CBD, in which hospitality, food and events students will receive real world experience by opening to both patrons on campus and the general public.
The Tram Café will provide a simulated training facility giving students the opportunity to gain practical café and food truck experience, to prepare and sell student product and showcase William Angliss Institute's educational programs to the public.
The heritage tram has been provided by owners of Victoria's rail transport land, assets and infrastructure, VicTrack, and was refurbished by Bendigo Tramways. The Tram Café is part of a number of upgrades William Angliss Institute has been able to execute courtesy of the Victorian State Government's TAFE Asset Maintenance Fund aimed at creating jobs and helping drive economic recovery from the Coronavirus pandemic.
For now, construction on the site continues as a canopy is added and the landscaping will take place to provide outdoor seating and an inviting surround for Tram Café events.
We look forward to launching the Tram Café in early 2023.
